For 26 years, the name Peter Jernberg was synonymous with Jackson Academy. His outstanding leadership created a culture of excellence, not just in academics but also through encouraging lives of character, purpose, and community involvement. His influence will remain a cornerstone of the Jackson Academy educational experience.

In his honor, the Board of Trustees, in 2014, established the James Peter Jernberg, Jr., Scholars program. The competitive scholarship, which extends year to year, provides full tuition and fees including select fees in school sponsored clubs, activities, and sports. Eligible candidates are gifted students who have also demonstrated some financial need.

Patti Wade, Director of Communications, says, “We want the entire community to know about this opportunity. It is not just for students currently enrolled at Jackson Academy.”

Sahil Patel, a senior, was in the inaugural group of Jernberg Scholars. He says the Advanced Placement courses are challenging but incredibly rewarding. Claiming English Literature as a favorite this year, he is looking forward to his Intro to Engineering class next semester. Tops on his college choices are MIT and Stanford.

Carter Elliott, a ninth grader, is in his third year at JA. He says the application process was “a long, hard road,” but one he is so glad he chose to try. His favorite subject is math, but he is also a talented musician who plays a number of instruments. He hopes to find a future career as a professional singer and songwriter one day.
