Katie grew up in Russellville, Arkansas, where she was editor in chief of The Black Couch, the Russellville High School literary magazine, in 2005-2006. At the University of Mississippi, Katie studied under Samir “Mr. Magazine” Husni, an internationally recognized magazine expert, who was her advisor as she created and designed a magazine prototype for her honors thesis. She was also the editor of Hyperbole, UM’s undergraduate literary magazine, in 2009-2010.

After graduating magna cum laude in 2010, Katie wrote freelance features in the Jackson area and sought magazine jobs — including with Mississippi Christian Living founder and first owner Marilyn Tinnin, who did not have a position for Katie at the time. Katie then covered south Madison County for the Northside Sun newspaper for four years, then transitioned to the Clarion-Ledger, the state’s biggest newspaper, in 2015. She ran the CL’s monthly magazine Magnolia for a year before becoming features editor.

In spring 2018, Marilyn Tinnin reached out to Katie about a possible ownership transition, and on September 1, 2018, Katie took ownership. She has wanted to run a Christian magazine since her freshman year of college! Katie is an active member of Grace City Church in Jackson, where she greets and ushers every other Sunday and is still trying to perfect her “usher rhythm.”

She loves seeing live music, spending time with her parents, brother and sister-in-law, visiting Arkansas and chilling with friends or a good book or movie. She lives with roommates in Jackson and loves our capital city!
