The 65th annual National Day of Prayer will be held on May 5, 2016. The theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the reverence of God’s Holy Name. To further highlight our theme, we’ve chosen Isaiah 58:1a as our Scripture: “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”
All across America many will meet together to pray for the seven powers of influence in our culture: family, church, education, government, military, business, media, and entertainment. Previously, it is estimated that over two million people attended more than 30,000 observances—organized by approximately 40,000 volunteers. At state capitols, county court houses, on the steps of city halls, in schools, businesses, churches and homes, people stopped their activities and gathered for prayer.
“Our vision for Mississippi is to have NDP volunteer prayer coordinators in every city and county for Christ across our state,” says Mississippi’s State Coordinator Debra Brown. The Mississippi State Capitol event will be held at the South steps of the capitol building in Jackson at noon on May 5 and bring all ages together. Governor and First Lady Deborah Bryant will be there. School children are also in attendance and participate in a prayer walk around the Capitol grounds.
