200 Million Flowers is not your average adoption agency. Founded by Jackson’s own, Craig and Rachel Robertson, this Christian non-profit is committed to not only providing low-cost private infant adoptions, but also raising awareness for Mississippi children available for adoption in foster care. The name 200 Million Flowers comes from the number of estimated orphans in the world and a quote from Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa said, “How can there be too many children? It’s like saying there are too many flowers.” 200 Million Flowers is fueled by creative, energetic volunteers and staff with hearts for children who deserve a loving family. On June 22, 2013, 200 Million Flowers will host its second annual “5K for the Fatherless”. This run/walk event will be through the streets of Olde Towne Ridgeland and the West Jackson Historic Overlay District. There are cash prizes for the top three male and female runners along with awards for age-group winners. Children under 12 can enter the one-mile fun run, with medals for all who participate. Inspired by the Bible verse James 1:27, 200 Million Flowers is called to “care for” children in need of a forever family by connecting them with Christian parents. We understand that not everyone is called to adopt, but believe all Christians are called to help. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for the body of Christ to do just that. Proceeds from this event will help develop a photo gallery of Mississippi foster children waiting to be adopted and provide assistance to birth mothers placing their babies for adoption.
