Shower Power, a nonprofit helping downtown Jackson’s unhoused population, is the beneficiary of the 42nd WellsFest Music Festival.
The popular, family-friendly event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 26, at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, at 1150 Lakeland Drive. The alcohol- and drug-free festival features nonstop music, children’s activities, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a plant sale, and an online auction. Admission and parking are free.
Wells United Methodist Church has presented WellsFest as an outreach ministry since 1984. Each year, the church selects a different local nonprofit social service agency to receive all net proceeds from WellsFest. Previous WellsFests have raised over $1.6 million for these ministries.
This year, WellsFest will benefit Shower Power, a local nonprofit which serves the homeless.
“It’s an honor Wells Church chose us as this year’s WellsFest beneficiary,” said Shower Power Executive Director Nick Spradley. “The funds from the festival will help Shower Power continue providing free hygiene services, meals, shelter, clothing, and other essentials for folks experiencing homelessness across Jackson.”
Spradley added, “Shower Power accepts financial donations, hygiene items, clothing and food for our clients year-round. Our facility is at 836 South Commerce Street in Jackson. Reach us at 769-610-6296 or ShowerPower.ms@icloud.com.”
WellsFest is a ministry of Wells United Methodist Church – located on Bailey Avenue in Jackson – which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II, senior pastor, said:
“Our congregation views every WellsFest as our gift of love to the community. WellsFest brings together a broad spectrum of the community to share a joyful way of helping our disadvantaged brothers and sisters.”
The church welcomes volunteers to help conduct the festival and direct donations to support Shower Power. Vendor spaces are still available. For more information, call Wells United Methodist Church at 601-353-0658 or visit wellsfest.org.
