The Garden Club of Jackson’s Spring Tour—Be There

The Garden Club of Jackson will host their annual spring tour on April 20 and 21, but ticket sales have already begun. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, visitors will be treated to four gardens in close proximity of each other and boasting color, mature growth, and beauty that promise to inspire even a beginner looking to build a beautiful outdoor space. The Secret Garden Gift Shop and boxed lunches by Primos Café make this event one of the most enjoyable of local happenings.

Proceeds from the tour always benefit one of Jackson’s community treasures. The club’s mission includes serious commitment to conservation, preservation, civic improvement, and horticulture. This year the funds will benefit the gardens and grounds of the Lowry House, a Mississippi Landmark home now owned and operated by the Mississippi Heritage Trust. Built in the 1850s, the home is now located on North Congress Street near the Baptist Hospital. In recent years it has been beautifully restored and serves as home to the Mississippi Heritage Trust and as a premier venue for receptions, meetings, and community events.

June Stone, president of The Garden Club of Jackson, said, “Our club has contributed more than $160,000 in funds to a variety of garden-related projects in Jackson.” Some of Jackson’s favorite sites that have been recipients of the club’s benevolence include The Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art, Greenwood Cemetery, The Cedars, Mynelle Gardens, and The Welty Garden.
